Special Projects Support

Special Projects

In addition to unrestricted annual gifts, we are happy to work with you if you prefer to designate your gift to a particular Historical Society program.

Research Library
Each year approximately 5,000 inquiries are made for information from the Historical Society’s Research Library. Individuals visit the Library to research family history or look for a particular part of our local history. Maintaining these resources and assisting in record searches helps members of our community tap into our local history – and theirs.

The Historical Society collects manuscripts and other materials from private individual, organizations and corporations. In addition we are the official depository for Milwaukee County government records. Funding support is always needed to process these archives.

Historical Sites
The Historical Society operates three museum houses. These homes, representing Milwaukee's early immigrant residences, and the Milwaukee County Historical Society's downtown building are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. landmark

Trimborn Farm is the only Milwaukee County Park with a historic theme. The multifaceted property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a State Historic Site and a Milwaukee County Landmark.

Maintaining these historical properties, keeping them open to the public and supporting programming at each location is a vital function of the Historical Society. Over 80,000 people tour these properties each year.

Publications
Milwaukee History is the official publication of the Milwaukee County Historical Society. The quarterly magazine's purpose is to publish manuscripts and photographs, which contribute new insights into the history of Milwaukee County. We welcome sponsors for each issue.

The Milwaukee County Historical Society has published several books including The Making of Milwaukee by John Gurda, now in its third printing. Restricted contributions provide needed funds to bring new works to publication – like the Photographs of Lyle Oberweis. Tour the Publications section to learn more.
